Our Client

Empire Recruitment is working on behalf of a long-established Irish transport provider to recruit an experienced European Road Freight Sales Agent. This is a commercially strategic role focused on the expansion of full load (FTL), part load (LTL), and groupage freight solutions across mainland Europe.

The successful candidate will be a technical sales expert in European road freight, with the ability to assess route profitability, identify viable haulage capacity, and deliver integrated transport solutions to both new and existing clients.

Roles & Responsibilities

New Business Development

  • Proactively identify, target, and acquire new European road freight customers (importers/exporters, freight forwarders, manufacturers, etc.).
  • Develop structured sales pipelines across key markets (e.g., Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Eastern Europe).
  • Conduct prospecting through cold calling, trade networking, digital outreach, and referrals.
  • Respond to RFI/RFQ processes with tailored, competitive service proposals.

Solution Selling & Technical Expertise

  • Understand and present multimodal transport solutions involving full truckload, less-than-truckload, and groupage services.
  • Analyse client logistics flows, frequency, and volume to provide appropriate haulage capacity and routing options.
  • Advise on customs requirements, transit times, Incoterms, and cross-border compliance.
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure feasibility, pricing accuracy, and optimal transit planning.

Account Management & Relationship Development

  • Maintain and grow accounts through service reviews, performance tracking, and upselling additional freight lanes or services.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact for key supply chain stakeholders within client businesses.
  • Maintain a high level of client satisfaction through proactive communication and issue resolution.

Commercial & Market Intelligence

  • Track competitor offerings, market rates, and service innovations across the EU.
  • Contribute to pricing strategy and profit margin analysis for different corridors and commodities.
  • Maintain CRM records with accurate tracking of activity, forecasts, and sales performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in European road freight sales (FTL/LTL/Groupage), ideally within an asset-based or non-asset-based transport environment.
  • Demonstrated success in winning and retaining customers across European routes.
  • Strong knowledge of EU road freight regulations, transport documentation, and customs procedures.
  • Familiar with key European trade lanes and their operational characteristics.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with a consultative approach to sales.
  • Ability to work independently, set targets, and manage workload to deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; CRM system experience essential.
  • Full clean driving licence preferred; willingness to travel for client meetings as required.
