Our Client

Empire Recruitment is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading global manufacturer for the position of Customs & Compliance agent. This newly created role will focus on ensuring that all day-to-day customs operations run smoothly and efficiently, covering both inbound and outbound freight.

The successful candidate will take ownership of customs documentation, clearance processes, and record keeping, ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulations. In addition, the role will support the business in maintaining its Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status and assisting with audits and internal compliance checks.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manage daily customs clearance processes for all incoming and outgoing freight.
  • Prepare, check, and process all necessary customs documentation, including import/export entries, VAT, and duty requirements.
  • Ensure all data submitted to Revenue and relevant authorities is accurate and compliant.
  • Liaise with internal departments, freight forwarders, and customs agents to ensure smooth and compliant shipment flows.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all customs activities.
  • Monitor and resolve clearance queries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the safe and compliant movement of goods across multiple transport modes (air, road, sea, courier).
  • Assist with the preparation of customs audits, including AEO and Known Consignor compliance checks.
  • Conduct internal audits against SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Support trade compliance initiatives, including reviews of courier performance and customs processes.
  • Participate in ad-hoc compliance and continuous improvement projects within the supply chain team.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in customs operations, trade compliance, or freight forwarding.
  • Strong knowledge of customs documentation, clearance processes, and import/export regulations.
  • Awareness or experience of AEO accreditation (advantageous but not essential).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage large volumes of data with accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to liaise effectively across teams and external partners.
  • High level of computer literacy, with strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a proactive and solution-focused approach.
  • Knowledge of international shipping methods (air, road, sea, courier).
  • Experience handling hazardous goods and familiarity with packaging procedures would be an advantage.
  • Third-level qualification in a relevant discipline desirable.
