Our Client

Our client provides specialised contract services to the construction industry in Ireland, the UK and across Europe.

Roles & Responsibilities

Empire Recruitment is seeking a talented and experienced Design Manager to join our client’s team in the construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the technical design stage of various projects across Ireland, Europe, and the UK, ensuring projects meet client expectations and are delivered on time and within budget. This role is primarily work from home, however due to the nature of the role some site visits may be required from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Oversee the design process from project award to handover, acting as a key point of contact for clients and main contractors during the pre-construction phase.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead the technical design and submittal process, conduct value engineering exercises, refine specifications, and maximise financial opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Attend internal and external project meetings, ensuring project and client expectations are met. Present summary reports on project health, including program, budget, and approvals.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks at the earliest possible stage and report back to Directors and Senior Management.
  • Resource Management: Manage internal and external resources, utilising internal teams and establishing external consultants as required to fulfil project requirements.

Technical/Design Management

  • Compliance Review: Review drawings and specifications produced by internal and external designers, ensuring compliance with local building regulations and company operating procedures.
  • Value Engineering: Conduct value engineering exercises to ensure proposals are fit for purpose and compliant with building regulations.
  • Design Process: Manage the design and technical submittal process in line with project programs, ensuring deadlines are met and any potential delays are reported.

Project Management

  • Design Deliverables: Ensure design deliverables and design programs are set out and met.
  • Handover Process: Once design and pre-construction work is complete, handover the project to the operations team, quantity surveyors, and installation teams, ensuring all parties are comprehensively briefed.

People Management

  • Team Leadership: Manage internal and external resources, including work allocations, pipeline reviews, and general team management under the direction of the Head of Design.
  • Employee Development: Participate in hiring, training, and evaluating employees, providing motivational leadership, coaching, support, and guidance to staff.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: BTEC in Building Studies, Building Engineering, or Building Management, or a HNC/HND/Degree in Construction Management or Architecture/Architectural Technology.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience managing elements of construction projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in IT, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Other Requirements: Strong team player with excellent organisational skills and a current driver’s licence.
